The digital ecosystem exhibits self-organizing environments, thanks to the re-combination and evolution of its "digital components", in which resources provided by each entity are properly conserved, managed and used. The underlying resources mainly comprehend data management, innovative services, computational intelligence and self-organizing platforms. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of digital ecosystems and their characteristics, they are highly complex to study and design. This also leads to a poor understanding as to how managing resources will empower digital ecosystems to be innovative and va! lue-creating. The application of Information Technologies has the potential to enable the understanding of how entities request resources and ultimately interact to create benefits and added-values, impacting business practices and knowledge. These technologies can be improved through novel techniques, models and methodologies for fields such as data management, web technologies, networking, security, human-computer interactions, artificial intelligence, e-services and self-organizing systems to support the establishment of digital ecosystems and manage their resources. The International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (MEDES) aims to develop and bring together a diverse community from academia, research laboratories and industry interested in exploring the manifold challenges and issues related to resource management of Digital Ecosystems and how current approaches and technologies can be evolved and adapted to this end. The conference seeks related original research papers, industrial papers and proposals for demonstrations. Topics ---------- In this call, we solicit original research and technical papers not published elsewhere. The papers can be theoretical, practical and application oriented on the following themes (but not limited to): - Digital Ecosystem Infrastructure - Green computing - Emergent Intelligence - Services - Trust, Security & Privacy - Data & Knowledge Management - Web and Standards - Human-Computer Interaction - Networks and Protocols - Open Source - Miscellaneous Paper Submission -------------------------- Submissions must be in an electronic form as PDF format and should be uploaded using the conference website. The submitted paper should be at most 8 ACM single-space printed pages. Papers that fail to comply with length limit will be rejected. Submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 peer reviewers. After the preliminary notification date, authors rebut by evidence and arguments all reviewer inquiries and their comments. Based on the rebuttal feedback, reviewers notify authors with the final decision. Selection criteria will include: relevance, significance, impact, originality, technical soundness, and quality of presentation. Preference will be given to submissions that take strong or challenging positions on important emergent topics related to Digital Ecosystems. At least one author should attend the conference to present the paper. The conference Proceedings will be published by ACM and indexed by the ACM Digital Library and DBLP. It aims to connect researchers, and give PhD students a place to present and discuss their ideas and make them work together collaboratively. The goal of the DM is to bring together and support young researchers with different backgrounds, who are interested in intelligent agents or multi-agent systems. We invite PhD students at all stages of their research. The DM wants to offer a platform for PhD students for presenting and discussing their results, ideas and planed work in a constructive atmosphere. Moreover, each PhD student will be mentored by an experienced researcher, who will provide detailed feedback and advice to help with their intended research. This often gives valuable external input and provides the opportunity to get in touch with different researchers extending the personal academic network. Participation An abstract of your thesis (up to 4 pages), formatted following the MATES guidelines. The abstract should outline your PhD project. It should contain an introduction to your research field, a description of related works and a description of your research (done and/or planned). The abstract has to be written without co-authors. The abstract will be reviewed by members of the MATES PC and accepted abstracts with high quality will be published as part of the MATES Springer proceedings. Their computer-based processing, integration, as well as their conceptual foundation and application presents ever new challenges to existing methods of knowledge representation, data bases, and data analysis. In the life sciences, enormous data sets are being produced in connection with biological and medical experiments, aiming to unravel biological interconnections for a better understanding in order to offer patients the best possible therapies. Data management and data processing in the life sciences ranges from the best possible integration and usage of distributed, heterogeneous data to the best possible obfuscation of medical data. This workshop integrates workshops of two series: the workshop series "Data in Life Sciences" and "Ontologies in Biomedicine and Life Sciences" (OBML), thereby connecting two important areas of biomedical research. This connection covers the overall spectrum of biomedical information processing, from experimental data acquisition and data management, across analysis, structuring and interpretation of data, up to the development of structures of knowledge in the form of ontologies with their various applications. The workshop pursues the aim to gather scientists that work in these fields in order to exchange ideas, to discuss new results and to inspire collaboration. The workshop has an interdisciplinary character. It fosters the collaboration between ontologists, computer scientists, bio-informaticians, medical information scientists, applied logicians, as well as cooperations with physicians, bio-chemists, and biometricians. Topics ------ We invite submissions in all areas of biomedical ontology and data management. The following topics are relevant, yet others related to these basic topics are likewise welcome: - Integration, management and retrieval of big data and/or complex data sets - Curation of data in life sciences - Visualisation of data in life sciences - Generic transformation of clinical data into Semantic Web standards - Data protection of clinical data - Omics-data for diagnosis and therapy - Ontologies in the field of biology, medicine and clinical research, for example -- Ontologies for the specification of clinical trials and medical phenotypes -- Process ontologies in systems biology and in medicine -- Ontologies in neuro biology - Ontologies in knowledge representation (for example, formal ontology of time and space, formal ontology of properties, roles and functions) - Methods and tools for development, management and application of ontologies (for example, applications in the Semantic Web) Submission instructions ----------------------- Submissions to the workshop should comprise 2-4 pages. Contributions in English are highly recommended, but submissions in German can also be accepted. The preferred file format for submissions is PDF, other admitted formats are Microsoft Word (DOC and DOCX) and Postscript (PS). Please use the corresponding template for submissions, either the LaTeX template or the Microsoft Word template. The main objective of this workshop is to discuss evolutionary computation methods for the generation of such generic algorithms and/or heuristics. Since these methods, known as hyper-heuristics, operate at a higher level of abstraction, they have the advantage of producing algorithms which can be applied to a class of problems, rather than a solution specifically produced for a single instance of the problem. The application for these methods include data mining, machine learning, optimization, bioinformatics, image processing, economics etc. The workshop welcomes original submissions on all aspects of evolutionary computation for designing generic algorithms and heuristics, which include (but are not limited to) the following topics and themes: - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic combinatorial optimization algorithms or heuristics - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic machine learning algorithms or heuristics - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic function optimizers - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic algorithms or heuristics for bioinformatics - (Meta-level) evolutionary algorithms for designing other (base-level) evolutionary algorithms - Empirical comparison of different hyper-heuristics - Theoretical analyses of hyper-heuristics - Automatic selection of algorithmic building blocks as a pre-processing step for the use of hyper-heuristics - Analysis of the trade-off between generality and effectiveness of different heuristics, algorithms or heuristics produced by hyper-heuristics - Real-world applications of hyper-heuristics ---------------------------------------------------------- Paper Submission ---------------------------------------------------------- Submitted papers should follow the ACM format, and not exceed 8 pages. Please see the GECCO 2013 information for authors for further details. However, note that the review process of the workshop is not double-blind. Hence, authors' information should appear in the paper. All accepted papers will be presented at the workshop and appear in the GECCO workshop volume. Proceedings of the workshop will be published on CD-ROM, and distributed at the conference. The Semantic Web draws on standard and novel techniques from various disciplines related to Computer Science, including Artificial Intelligence, Databases, Internet Technology, Software Agents, Ontologies, Knowledge Management and eCommerce. The developed and integrated methods and tools – often called Semantic Technologies – are generic and have a very large application potential outside the domain of Semantic Web. Applications of Semantic Technologies are currently being investigated in various fields, including Ambient Intelligence, Software Engineering, Cognitive Systems, Corporate Intranets, Knowledge Management and Bioinformatics. In recent years, the amount of data published on the Semantic Web as so-called Linked Data has exploded. We believe that the methods and tools provided by Semantic Technologies will play a crucial role in these and other application areas for the foreseeable future, in particular for added-value services in organizations. The AST2013 workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners who work on applications of Semantic Technologies in order to foster cross-fertilisation between application areas and aid technology transfer from foundational research into practice. The workshop covers diverse application areas of Semantic Technologies, including, but not limited to, the following: * Ambient Intelligence * Cognitive Systems * Information Integration * Multimedia Data Management * Software Engineering * smartEnergy * Machine Learning * Service-Oriented Computing * Digital Libraries * Grid and Cloud Computing * Peer-to-Peer Systems * Technology-enhanced learning * eScience * eCommerce * eGovernment * Bioinformatics * Social Software * Automation The event will be organised as a full-day workshop with a keynote address and several contributed talks. There will be an additional slot reserved for an OpenSpace session to creatively explore new application areas. We believe that this will spark fruitful discussions among participants and initiate future collaborations and exploitation areas for Semantic Technologies. The aim of the conference is to publish and promote progress in research areas requiring the development of general techniques and methods for the combination and integration of special, formally defined systems, as well as for the analysis and modularization of complex systems. FroCos 2013 will be co-located with the 22nd International Conference on Automated Reasoning with Analytic Tableaux and Related Methods (TABLEAUX 2013) held 16-19 September 2013. SCOPE OF CONFERENCE: In various areas of computer science, such as logic, computation, program development and verification, artificial intelligence, knowledge representation, and automated reasoning, there is an obvious need for using specialized formalisms and inference mechanisms for special tasks. To be usable in practice, these specialized systems must be combined with each other, and must be integrated into general purpose systems. This has led in many research areas to the development of general techniques and methods for the combination and integration of special, formally defined systems, as well as for the analysis and modularization of complex systems. The International Symposium on Frontiers of Combining Systems (FroCoS) traditionally focusses on these types of research questions and activities. Like its predecessors, FroCoS 2013 seeks to offer a common forum for research in the general area of combination, modularization and integration of systems, with emphasis on logic-based ones, and of their practical use. In formal and applied ontology, modularity is central to reducing the complexity of designing and understanding ontologies, and to facilitating ontology verification, reasoning, development, maintenance and integration. Recent research on ontology modularity shows substantial progress in foundations of modularity, techniques of modularization and modular development, distributed reasoning and empirical evaluation. These results provide a solid foundation and exciting prospects for further research and development. The workshop continues a series of successful events that have been an excellent venue for practitioners and researchers to discuss latest and current work. The most recent WoMOs were held at ESSLLI 2011 and FOIS/ICBO 2012. This time WoMO is organised as a workshop of LPNMR 2013: the 12th International Conference on Logic Programming and Non-monotonic Reasoning. LPNMR is well-established as the main conference in the field. The workshop will be open to all attendants of LPMNR'13 and its workshops. Workshop speakers will be required to register for WoMO via the LPMNR'13 website. Registration for WoMO only will be possible. TOPICS include, but are not limited to: - What is modularity?: kinds of modules and their properties; modules vs. contexts; design patterns; granularity of representation; - Logical/foundational studies: modular ontology languages; reconciling inconsistencies across modules; formal structuring of modules; heterogeneity; hybrid theories; intertheory relations (conservativity, interpretability, strong equivalence, inseparability, etc.) - Algorithmic approaches: distributed and incremental reasoning; modularization and module extraction; sharing, linking, reuse; privacy; complexity of reasoning; implemented systems; - Evaluation of modularizations: case studies or other analyses of ontology modularizations (why it is modularized in a certain way, what does it address, how can it be improved); how to measure the adequacy of a modularization; comparison of modularizations with respect to philosophical, logical, reasoning, cognitive, or social aspects; - Applications: semantic web; life sciences; earth sciences; bio-ontologies; natural language processing; space and time; ambient intelligence; social intelligence; technology and engineering; collaborative ontology development and ontology versioning. Events report on state changes of a system and its environment. Event recognition (event pattern matching), in turn, refers to the detection of the events that are considered relevant for processing, thereby providing the opportunity to implement reactive measures. Consider, for example, the recognition of emerging stories and trends on the Social Web, the recognition of fraud in electronic marketplaces, and the recognition of non-compliant behaviour in norm-governed multi-agent systems. In each scenario, event recognition is of utmost importance to make sense of large data streams and react accordingly. We invite quality submissions focusing on various aspects of event recognition. We welcome both theoretical contributions as well as papers describing interesting applications. Broad topics include: -Event recognition under uncertainty -Event recognition and forecasting -Optimisation techniques for event recognition -Multi-scale temporal aggregation of events -Machine learning for event recognition -Verification of event recognition models -Event-based business process management and modelling -Real-world applications of event recognition systems -Middleware for event recognition -Scalability and high throughput issues -Event recognition in (norm-governed) multi-agent systems Key Dates Submission: 15 October 2013 Notification: 15 January 2014 Revisions: 15 February 2014 Final decision: 15 April 2014 Final submission: 15 May 2014 Publication: 15 October 2014 Submission Instructions http://toit.acm.org/submission.html Guest Editors Alexander Artikis, NCSR Demokritos, Greece http://users.iit.demokritos.gr/~a.artikis/ Avigdor Gal, Technion, Israel http://ie.technion.ac.il/~avigal/ Vana Kalogeraki, Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece http://www.cs.aueb.gr/~vana/ Matthias Weidlich, Technion, Israel http://www.matthiasweidlich.com/ From lembo at dis.uniroma1.it Tue Mar 19 19:13:38 2013 From: lembo at dis.uniroma1.it (Domenico Lembo) Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2013 19:13:38 +0100 Subject: Call for Applications: The 9th Reasoning Web Summer School (RW 2013) Message-ID: ============================================================== RW 2013 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS/PARTICIPATION Deadline for Applications: March 25, 2013! ============================================================== REASONING WEB 2013 The 9th Reasoning Web Summer School (RW 2013) Mannheim, Germany, July 30 - August 2, 2013 http://reasoningweb.org/2013/ co-located with the - 7th Internationall Conference on Web Reasoning and Rule Systems (RR 2013), Mannheim, Germany, July 27-29, 2013 http://www.rr-conference.org/RR2013 - 26th International Workshop on Description Logics (DL 2013) Ulm, Germany, July 23-26, 2013 http://www.uni-ulm.de/en/in/dl2013.html - 2nd OWL Reasoner Evaluation Workshop (ORE 2013) Ulm, Germany, July 22nd, 2013 http://ore2013.cs.manchester.ac.uk/ The Reasoning Web Summer School 2013 is primarily intended for postgraduate (PhD or MSc) students, postdocs, and other young researchers investigating aspects related to Reasoning on the Semantic Web and related issues. An autonomous car, for example, must safely negotiate an environment that is imperfectly and incompletely modeled, while using actuators that are themselves imperfect, and guided by fallible sensors whose data requires delicate interpretation and fusion. Assurance here clearly requires more than verification, but can build on verified foundations. In general, computer-aided verification is usually performed in support of a larger activity whose goal is to provide assurance for a decision with large consequences. The decision may be to send a hardware design for fabrication or to release a commercial software product, in which cases the consequences are economic, or it may be to deploy a system in a context with potential consequences for societal safety or security. In all these cases, verification will be just one of many strands of evidence that contribute to system assurance, and the overall structure of the assurance may be specified or constrained by regulation or certification requirements. This workshop will explore challenges and opportunities posed for computer-aided verification by the larger context of system assurance. One immediate set of challenges arises from the (recursive) need to provide assurance for the claims delivered by computer-aided verification itself. Related is the challenge of providing assurance for the assumptions and requirements with respect to which the verification is performed. These challenges are situated in pragmatic engineering settings where choices must be made about what should be verified, and to what level of detail, and what should or must be assured by other means (such as testing, human review, or runtime monitoring), and how all these should be combined. Opportunities arise from the possibility of formalizing and verifying aspects of the larger assurance activity, stimulated by recent proposals that this should be structured as an assurance "case." An assurance case is composed of claims, argument, and evidence, where the argument justifies claims (e.g., for security or safety) based on evidence about the system and its development. An interesting complication is that many top-level claims are probabilistic (e.g., 10-9 for certain aircraft software) while traditional formal verification is unconditional. We solicit papers on relevant topics, which include but are not restricted to the following. We encourage exploratory work that will stimulate discussion. o Quantitative and qualitative assurance claims and arguments o Integration of formal verification with assurance and with assurance cases o Modular and incremental methods of verification and assurance o Toolchains for integrated assurance arguments o Soundness guarantees for tools, toolchains, and workflows o Certification and regulatory requirements and standards o Experience reports and challenges The program will include invited speakers, presentation of selected papers, and discussion. Within this context, the Student Session is designed as a special programme to present students with a conference-like setup, both in the presentation and in the review process. This means that students will have the opportunity to prepare their own submission which will be then peer reviewed. Students whose papers are accepted get the opportunity to present their work and interests to their fellow students as well as internationally leading experts in the agent field, both from the theoretical and the practical sector. EASSS attracts about a hundred students each year. The school provides a wide range of state-of-the-art courses given by the most prominent researchers in the area. A typical course lasts 3.5 hours and is broad enough to provide a general introduction to the chosen topics and covers the most important contributions in depth. The success of the summer school series is essential not only for the mutual benefit of research groups, but also in forming future generations of researchers to maintain the excellence of agents research and development in Europe. EASSS aims to offer a valuable forum for knowledge exchange between various research groups in its field for the benefit of students and researchers at both beginner and advanced level. Therefore, the Student Session is designed to encourage student interaction and feedback from the tutors. All accepted papers will be assigned a 15-20 minute slot for presentation. Typically a presentation will either detail the intended approach to a problem or ask a specific question, directed at the audience. In addition, all students will be given the opportunity to present their work in the form of a poster that will be displayed at EASSS'13. The competitive elements that are often found in conferences (e.g. best paper award, best presentation award) are intentionally omitted. The goal is to provide speakers with constructive feedback and to introduce them to the community. The peer review will not focus on the research contributions of the presented material, but rather on the clarity of the formulated material and whether or not the posed question is relevant to the majority of the students. Giving a good presentation is a difficult task. One of the benefits of the student session is the opportunity it offers to practise this skill. The extent to which the audience has understood the details should be the criterion by which the presentations are judged. Important dates ---------------- - April 29 - Abstract submission (optional) - May 3 - Submission deadline - May 27 - Notification to authors - June 3 - Camera-ready version due - July 1 - Start of the Summer School Submission Details ------------------- - Topics are not limited but they should fall with the scope of the subject areas covered by EASSS'13 Summer School. - Papers should describe students' works. - Only students can be authors, supervisors are however strongly encouraged to motivate their students to participate and supervise the quality of their work. - At least one of the authors will have to register as a participant at EASSS'13. - Submissions should not exceed 8 pages in length (including references and appendices), and need to be formatted using the AAMAS style (see http://aamas2013.cs.umn.edu/ menu point camera ready instructions for more details) and should be submitted in either .pdf or .ps format. - Please use the following link https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sseasss13 for your submission. AIMS AND SCOPE This competition is an attempt to stimulate research in the area of multi-agent system development and programming by 1. identifying key problems, 2. collecting suitable benchmarks, and 3. gathering test cases which require and enforce coordinated action that can serve as milestones for testing multi-agent programming languages, platforms and tools. We also expect that participating at the contest helps to debug existing systems and to identify their weak and strong aspects. The performance of a particular system will be determined in a series of games where the systems compete against each other. While winning the competition is not the main point, we hope it will shed light on the applicability of certain frameworks to particular domains. 2. HISTORY The Multi-Agent Programming Contest was initiated in 2005 and since then it has passed through three distinct phases. The first phase began in 2005 with the "food-gatherers"-scenario, where a pre-specified multi-agent system had to be implemented. These MASs were later examined in order to determine the winner. From 2006 - 2007 we ran the "goldminers"-scenario. This time we provided the environment by means of an online-architecture, and automatically determined the winner. Then from 2008 - 2010 we ran the "cows and cowboys"-scenario. Again on the same online-architecture, but this time with a slightly changed objective. 3. THE FOURTH PHASE: "AGENTS ON MARS" In 2011 we began the fourth phase with the definition of a new scenario: "Agents on Mars". The goal is to implement a team of cooperating agents with different roles in order to occupy zones on planet Mars. The challenge of the scenario is its increased complexity, that is that we have defined 5 roles of agents with different properties and capabilities. In this year's iteration we will work with an updtaded version of the "Agents on Mars" scenario. 4. ENROLLING We would like to invite potential participants to join the MAPC 2013 list. To subscribe, send an e-mail to agentcontest2013-subscribe [at] in.tu-clausthal.de with the subject "subscribe". The confirmation request and welcome message will be sent to you shortly afterwards. Please follow the instructions in the automatic mailing list replies. And please do not hesitate to say hello on the mailing list. 5. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS The participation in this contest consists of these parts: 1. Declaration of the intent to participate by registering to the mailing list. 2. Submission of a short team description. Thus registering to the contest officially. 3. Participation in the qualification phase. 4. Participation in the contest tournament by taking part on the final tournament. 5. Submission of the source-code of your application right after the tournament. 6. Submission of a paper after the tournament. 6. ROUGH TIMELINE May: beginning of testing phase. In which you are invited to test your agents using our servers. August: registration phase. First week of September: qualification phase. In which you have to prove that your agents' connections to our servers are stable and reliable. Second week of September: tournament. After tournament: publications. 7. PUBLICATIONS After the tournament we invite every participant to submit a paper about their team. The organizers will select a couple of high-quality papers and publish them in the EAMAS 2013 post-proceedings. The others will be published in the Department of Informatics, Clausthal University of Technology, Technical Reports Series. 8. PRIZE In previous editions, the winner team has been awarded a prize of 500 EUR worth in books, kindly provided by Springer Verlag. Most probably the same prize will be offered again this year. We also issue certificates for all the participants. Requirements are the submission of a paper and the sourcecodes of the agents. 9. This two-week event is aimed at graduate students, researchers and practitioners. The topic of this year's summer school is Semantic Web - Ontology Languages and Their Use The summer school is devoted to the Semantic Web, a very dynamic and current area of research and application which aims at making information on the World Wide Web fit for intelligent systems applications. One of the key ideas of the Semantic Web approach is to make use of methods from knowledge representation and of AI research in general in order to obtain seamless integration of information from diverse resources, interoperability of tools, enhance search functionalities, and the like. Central for this development is the design of knowledge representation languages for building so-called ontologies, which serve as a kind of metadata to describe the semantics or meaning of data on the Web. Of primary importance are ontology languages and related recommended standards by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), as well as methods and algorithm for their processing. The Semantic Web is now an advanced interdisciplinary field having its home in Computer Science. Third party funding for more than a decade, in particular from the European Union, has led to significant progress. Systems like Apple's Siri or IBM's Watson, adaptions of Semantic-Web-based technologies for e.g. schema.org, Facebook's Open Graph or Google's Knowledge Graph bring these technologies to widespread use and application. Through so-called Linked Data, high volumes of Semantic-Web-processable data is already available on the Web. The ICCL Summer School 2013 will introduce to Semantic Web Ontology Languages and some of their application areas, and highlight related research problems. Registration: If you want to attend the summer school, we would like you to register via the Online Registration Form preferably by April 11, 2013. This deadline is obligatory for all who want to apply for a grant. After April 11, 2013, registration will be possible as long as there are vacant places. (Since we intend to restrict participation to about 60 people, in case of excessive demand, we will have to close the registration to the summer school.) Please register at the latest by July 1, 2013, because - apart from the mentioned overall restriction of participation - we would need an early estimate of the number of participants. People applying until April 11, 2013, and applying for a grant will be informed about respective decisions on grants by end of April 2013. After April 11, 2013 applications for grants cannot be considered any more. An on-site check-in is on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at 4 - 7 pm in room E001 of the Computer Science building. It continues on Monday, August 19, 2013, 8 - 10 am. Fees: (A) We ask for a participation fee of 250 EUR for participants from the university sector (students, university employees, etc) (B) We ask for a participation fee of 1000 Euro for participants from industry. Please pay this summer school fee in cash at the day of your arrival. If belonging to the university sector you have to provide some respective evidence when paying the fees at the check-in (e.g. student card, web page at a university, etc). Grants: A limited number of grants for students and university employees will be available, which includes a waiver of the participation fee. Please indicate in your application, if the only possibility for you to participate is via a grant. Applications for grants must include an estimate of travel costs. Although predicate logic and number theory are undecidable, decidable theories or decidable theory fragments often occur in mathematics, in program verification, in the verification of reactive, real time or hybrid systems, as well as in databases and ontologies. It is therefore important to identify such decidable fragments and to design efficient decision procedures for them. It is equally important to have uniform methods (e.g. resolution, rewriting, tableaux, sequent calculi) which can be tuned to provide algorithms with optimal complexity. GOAL ==== The goal of ADDCT is to bring together researchers interested in - identifying (fragments of) logical theories which are decidable, identifying fragments thereof which have low complexity, and analyzing possibilities of obtaining optimal complexity results with uniform tools; - analyzing decidability in combinations of theories and possibilities of combining decision procedures; - efficient implementations for decidable fragments; - application domains where decidability resp. tractability are crucial. TOPICS OF INTEREST ================== Topics of interest for ADDCT include (but are not restricted to): - Decidability: - decision procedures based on logical calculi such as: resolution, rewriting, tableaux, sequent calculi, or natural deduction - decidability in combinations of logical theories - Complexity: - complexity analysis for fragments of first- (or higher) order logic - complexity analysis for combinations of logical theories (including parameterized complexity results) - Tractability (in logic, automated reasoning, algebra, ...) - Application domains for which complexity issues are essential (verification, security, databases, ontologies, ...) The goal of ADDCT is to bring together researchers interested in exploring the topics above, both at a theoretical level and motivated by applications. SUBMISSION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE ================================== Submissions are encouraged in one of the following categories: - Original papers (up to 15 pages, LNCS style, including bibliography); should describe original research and contain sufficient detail to assess the merits and relevance of the contribution. Simultaneous submission of material is prohibited. - Work in progress (up to 6 pages, LNCS style, without bibliography). - Presentation-only papers: may describe work previously published, and will not be inserted in the proceedings. We are allowing the submission of previously published work in order to allow researchers to communicate good ideas that the attendees may not be aware of. Given the informal style of the workshop, the submission of papers presenting student's work and work in progress is encouraged. Submission of papers is via EasyChair at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=addct2013 The final versions of the selected contributions will be collected in a volume to be distributed at the workshop and made accessible on the web. The overarching project involves the creation of an intelligent children's Toy, that will interact via voice, be personalised to its child owner, and grow with the child. This particular sub-project concerns architectures, methodology and support for developing 3rd party plug-in modules for the Toy. These should be able to be integrated at differing levels of complexity, depending on how much of both the plug-in module and the Toy core are exposed. Research issues involve architectural design of plug-ins and tool/methodological support for their development. Plug-ins should be as loosely coupled as possible, but must nevertheless integrate quite tightly with the core, in terms of being able to flexibly interleave different plug-ins in a coherent manner as the Toy interacts with its user. The Toy uses a BDI intelligent agent programming paradigm. Hence, an understanding of BDI agents, or the ability to quickly learn the concepts is necessary. Strong software engineering skills and good team work are also essential to this role. Understanding of dialogue systems is also useful. Immediate start is desired. Pay scale is $70,857-$83,068 per annum (A6-B2) depending on qualifications and experience. Petri nets are becoming increasingly popular in this area, as they provide a uniform language supporting the tasks of modelling, validation, and verification. Their popularity is due to the fact that Petri nets capture fundamental aspects of causality, concurrency and choice in a natural and mathematically precise way without compromising readability. The workshop PNSE'13 (Petri nets and Software Engineering) will take place as a satellite event of Petri Nets 2013. The use of Petri nets (P/T-nets, coloured Petri nets and extensions) in the formal process of software engineering, covering modelling, validation, and verification, will be presented as well as their application and tools supporting the disciplines mentioned above. __________________________________________________________________ Topics We welcome contributions describing original research in topics related to Petri nets in combination with software engineering, addressing open problems or presenting new ideas regarding the relation of Petri nets and software engineering. Furthermore we look for surveys addressing open problems and new applications of Petri nets. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Modelling * representation of formal models by intuitive modelling concepts * guidelines for the construction of system models * representative examples * process-, service-, state-, event-, object- and agent-oriented approaches * adaption, integration, and enhancement of concepts from other disciplines * views and abstractions of systems * model-driven architecture * modelling software landscapes * web service-based software development Validation and Execution * prototyping * simulation, observation, animation * code generation and execution * testing and debugging * process mining * efficient implementation Verification * structural methods (e.g. place invariants, reduction rules) * results for structural subclasses of nets * relations between structure and behaviour * state space based approaches * efficient model checking * assertional and deductive methods (e.g. temporal logics) * process algebraic methods * applications of category theory and linear logic * general analysis for software engineering contexts Application of Petri nets in Software Engineering, in particular the use of Petri nets in the domains of * flexible manufacturing, * logistics, * telecommunication, * workflow management and * embedded systems. Tools in the fields mentioned above __________________________________________________________________ Submissions The programme committee invites submissions of full contributions (up to 20 pages) or short contributions (up to 5 pages). Ongoing work (up to 2 pages) can also be presented in a special poster session. Please note that for full contributions up to 15 pages are recommended. Papers should be submitted in electronic form (PDF) using the Springer LNCS-format (see http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html). LOCATION The city of Plzen (Pilsen) is situated in Western Bohemia at the confluence of four rivers. With its 170,000 inhabitants it is the fourth largest city in the Czech Republic and an important industrial, commercial, and administrative centre. It is also the capital of the Pilsen Region. In addition, it has been selected as the European capital of culture for 2015 by the Council of the European Union. Pilsen is well-known for its brewing tradition. The trademark Pilsner-Urquell has a good reputation all over the world thanks to the traditional recipe, high quality hops and good groundwater. Beer lovers will also appreciate a visit to the Brewery Museum or the Brewery itself. Apart from its delicious beer, Pilsen hides lots of treasures in its core. The city can boast the second largest synagogue in Europe. The dominant of the old part of the city center is definitely the 13th-century Gothic cathedral featuring the highest tower in Bohemia (102.34 m). It is possible to go up and admire the view of the city. Not far from the cathedral is the splendid Renaissance Town Hall from 1558 and plenty of pleasant cafes and pubs are situated on and around the main square. There is also the beautiful Pilsen Historical Underground - under the city center, a complex network of passageways and cellars can be found. They are about 14 km long and visitors can see the most beautiful part of this labyrinth during the tour. It is recommended to visit the City Zoological Garden, having the second largest space for bears in Europe and keeping several Komodo dragons, large lizards which exist only in a few zoos in the world. The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen provides a variety of courses for both Czech and international students. It is the only institution of higher education in this part of the country which prepares students for careers in engineering (electrical and mechanical), science (computer science, applied mathematics, physics, and mechanics), education (both primary and secondary), economics, philosophy, politics, archeology, anthropology, foreign languages, law and public administration, art and design. GETTING THERE The city has access from the D5 motorway connecting Prague (Praha) with Germany. Pilsen has very good bus and train connections with the capital of Prague (it takes about 1 - 1.5 hour to get from Prague to Pilsen). >From Vaclav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) you can reach Pilsen by frequent public transport in 1.5 - 2 hours. THIRD ANNUAL WORKSHOP ON Evolutionary Computation for the Automated Design of Algorithms (ECADA-2013) to be held as part of the 2013 Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO-2013) July 06-10, Amsterdam, The Netherlands Organized by ACM SIGEVO http://www.sigevo.org/gecco-2013/ EXTENDED PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR WORKSHOP: midnight (GMT) April 7th 2013 Workshop URL: http://homepages.dcc.ufmg.br/~glpappa/workshop.html ---------------------------------------------------------- Although most evolutionary computation techniques are designed to generate specific solutions to a given instance of a problem, some of these techniques can be explored to solve more generic problems. The workshop welcomes original submissions on all aspects of7 evolutionary computation for designing generic algorithms and heuristics, which include (but are not limited to) the following topics and themes: - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic combinatorial optimization algorithms or heuristics - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic machine learning algorithms or heuristics - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic function optimizers - Evolutionary algorithms for designing generic algorithms or heuristics for bioinformatics - (Meta-level) evolutionary algorithms for designing other (base-level) evolutionary algorithms - Empirical comparison of different hyper-heuristics - Theoretical analyses of hyper-heuristics - Automatic selection of algorithmic building blocks as a pre-processing step for the use of hyper-heuristics - Analysis of the trade-off between generality and effectiveness of different heuristics, algorithms or heuristics produced by hyper-heuristi= cs - Real-world applications of hyper-heuristics ---------------------------------------------------------- Paper Submission ---------------------------------------------------------- Submitted papers should follow the ACM format, and not exceed 8 pages. Please see the GECCO 2013 information for authors for further details. However, note that the review process of the workshop is not double-blind. Hence, authors' information should appear in the paper. All accepted papers will be presented at the workshop and appear in the GECCO workshop volume. Submissions must be submitted via ConfTool (used by INFORMATIK 2013): [3] https://www.conftool.pro/informatik2013/ Accepted papers appear in the series GI-Edition Lecture Notes in Informatics (LNI) [4], if at least one author registers by June 30. After the workshop authors of selected contributions will be invited to submit extended versions (in English) to the Journal of Biomedical Semantics [5]. Submissions are invited to the KDD13 Workshop on Issues of Sentiment Discovery and Opinion Mining (http://sentic.net/wisdom), which aims to explore how the wisdom of the crowds is affecting (and will affect) the evolution of the Web and of businesses gravitating around it. In particular, the ACM KDD workshop explores two different stages of sentiment analysis: the former focusing on the identification of opinionated text over the Web, the latter focusing on the classification of such text either in terms of polarity detection or emotion recognition. RATIONALE The exponential growth of the Social Web is virally infecting more and more critical business processes such as customer support and satisfaction, brand and reputation management, product design and marketing. Because of this global trend, web users already evolved from the era of social relationships, in which they began to get connected and started to share contents, to the era of social functionality, in which they started using social networks as the main platform for communication and dissemination of information. Today, web users are going through the era of social colonization, in which every experience on the Web can be social (e.g., Facebook Like button), and are getting ready for the era of social context, in which web contents will be highly targeted and personalized. The final stage of such Social Web evolution is the so called era of social commerce, in which communities will define future products and services. In such context, the research field of sentiment analysis, which has already been rapidly growing in the last decade, is destined to become more and more important for Web and business dynamics. TOPICS The workshop aims to provide an international forum for both researchers and entrepreneurs working in the field of opinion mining to share information on their latest investigations in social information retrieval and their applications in academic research areas and industrial sectors. The broader context of the workshop comprehends AI, Semantic Web, information retrieval, web mining, and natural language processing. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: • Sentiment identification & classification • Knowledge-based opinion mining • Sentiment summarization & visualization • Entity discovery & extraction • Opinion aggregation • Opinion search & retrieval • Time evolving sentiment analysis • Opinion spam detection • Comparative opinion analysis • Topic detection & trend discovery • Psychological models for sentiment analysis • Multilingual opinion mining • Sentic computing • Big social data analysis • Social ranking • Social network analysis • Influence, trust & privacy analysis • Business intelligence applications TIMEFRAME • May 8th, 2013: Submission deadline • June 8th, 2013: Notification of acceptance • June 18th, 2013: Final manuscripts due • August 12th, 2013: Workshop date PROCEEDINGS Accepted papers will be published in KDD WISDOM proceedings. Selected, expanded versions of papers presented at the workshop will be invited to a forthcoming Special Issue of Cognitive Computation on opinion mining and sentiment analysis. Semantic Web Technologies are meant to deal with these issues, and indeed since the advent of Linked Data a few years ago, they have become central to mainstream Semantic Web research and development. We can easily understand Linked Data as being a part of the greater Big Data landscape, as many of the challenges are the same. The linking component of Linked Data, however, puts an additional focus on the integration and conflation of data across multiple sources. Workshop Topics In this symposium, we will explore the many opportunities and challenges arising from transferring and adapting Semantic Web Technologies to the Big Data quest. Topics of interest focus explicitly on the interplay of Semantics and Big Data, and include: the use of semantic metadata and ontologies for Big Data, the use of formal and informal semantics, the integration and interplay of deductive (semantic) and statistical methods, methods to establish semantic interoperability between data sources ways of dealing with semantic heterogeneity, scalability of Semantic Web methods and tools, and semantic approaches to the explication of requirements from eScience applications. Workshop Format, Submissions, and Proceedings The symposium will be highly interactive with spotlight presentations and small breakout groups interleaved with plenary sessions for reports on the breakout groups and for consolidation of results. To prime and channel discussions and group activities during the event, we call for the submission of position papers or extended abstracts of 2-4 pages, or of technical papers of 6-8 pages (in AAAI format). Please address questions to Pascal Hitzler at pascal.hitzler at wright.edu. Submissions shall be made through easychair at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=s4bd13 by May 24th, 2013. In epistemic protocol synthesis the focus is different: given an input state of information and an output state of information, and some 'rules for engagement' (allowed protocol), find (synthesize) the epistemic protocol transforming the input into the output. Areas of specific interest are protocols for secure communication, protocol languages, and agency. The project goal is epistemic protocol synthesis for synchronous and asynchronous multi-agent systems, by way of using and developing dynamic epistemic logics, i.e., logics of change of knowledge. available positions: 2 PhDs and 1 Postdoc Hans van Ditmarsch recently joined LORIA / CNRS and is the holder of an ERC (European Research Council) Starting Grant called 'epistemic protocol synthesis'. This project runs from 2013 to 2018. Two three-year PhD positions and one two-year Postdoc position are available in this project at this stage. (More positions will be available later.) The PhDs will be enrolled in the University of Lorraine. The requirements for the two PhD positions are: a master degree or equivalent in logic, computer science, artificial intelligence, or another area related to the project. (A curriculum that includes publications in English, such as a Master thesis, is to the advantage of an applicant for a PhD position.) The requirement for the Postdoc position is: a PhD degree in logic, computer science, artificial intelligence, or another area related to the project. Candidates with more than three years of Postdoc experience may qualify for a better paid researcher (chercheur) position. The PhD and Postdoc positions can start at any convenient date but preferably not after September 2013. Pay of PhD positions: 1757 euros/month (gross). Pay of Postdoc position: 2500 euros/month (gross). further information: deadline for application 15 May 2013 The deadline for application is 15 May 2013. The letter of application and the curriculum vitae may be in English, French, or Spanish.
