From bikakis at dblab.ece.ntua.gr Mon Nov 4 11:51:41 2019 From: bikakis at dblab.ece.ntua.gr (Nikos Bikakis) Date: Mon, 04 Nov 2019 11:51:41 +0100 Subject: CFP: BigVis :: 3rd Big Data Visual Exploration & Analytics workshop @ EDBT 2020, Copenhagen Message-ID: Call for Papers BigVis 2020: 3rd International Workshop on Big Data Visual Exploration and Analytics https://bigvis.imsi.athenarc.gr/bigvis2020   In conjunction with EDBT/ICDT 2020, March 30, 2020, Copenhagen, Denmark Held in conjunction with the 23rd Intl. Conference on Extending Database Technology & 23rd Intl. Conference on Database Theory (EDBT/ICDT 2020) Information Visualization is nowadays one of the cornerstones of Data Science, turning the abundance of Big Data being produced through modern systems into actionable knowledge. Indeed, the Big Data era has realized the availability of voluminous datasets that are dynamic, noisy and heterogeneous in nature. Transforming a data-curious user into someone who can access and analyze that data is even more burdensome now for a great number of users with little or no support and expertise on the data processing part. Thus, the area of data visualization, visual exploration and analysis has gained great attention recently, calling for joint action from different research areas from the HCI, Computer graphics and Data management and mining communities. In this respect, several traditional problems from these communities such as efficient data storage, querying & indexing for enabling visual analytics, new ways for visual presentation of massive data, efficient interaction and personalization techniques that can fit to different user needs are revisited. The modern exploration and visualization systems should nowadays offer scalable techniques to efficiently handle billion objects datasets, limiting the visual response in a few milliseconds along with mechanisms for information abstraction, sampling and summarization for addressing problems related to visual information overplotting. Further, they must encourage user comprehension offering customization capabilities to different user-defined exploration scenarios and preferences according to the analysis needs. Overall, the challenge is to offer self-service visual analytics, i.e. enable data scientists and business analysts to visually gain value and insights out of the data as rapidly as possible, minimizing the role of IT-expert in the loop. The BigVis workshop aims at addressing the above challenges and issues by providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss, exchange, and disseminate their work. BigVis attempts to attract attention from the research areas of Data Management & Mining, Information Visualization and Human-Computer Interaction and highlight novel works that bridge together these communities. The organizers are now calling for participation of PhD students at the doctoral symposium. The goal of the International Doctoral Symposium for Students of Artificial Intelligence is twofold: On one hand, it offers training sessions on topics and skills that may be useful to future researchers and professionals of artificial intelligence. On the other hand, it aims to provide a chance to share research interests and results of PhD students in the area of artificial intelligence. To achieve these, one senior PhD supervisor will deliver a talk, sharing advice and experience of doing research in artificial intelligence. Each PhD student will then be given 5 minutes to give a short presentation introducing himself/herself and his/her research topic (no details of any work done - just the topic area and the problem being attacked). Then the students will then work in groups with similar interests, for round table discussion, followed by group presentations. Senior faculty will be there to provide feedback, to help students progress effectively with their research. Presentations should be submitted by email to the following email address: swchen at swjtu.edu.cn and include the following information: + Name(s) and affiliation(s) of the PhD student(s) + Title/ topic of the presentation + Any special resources that would be needed ************************ Key Dates: ************************ + Presentation submission deadline: 31 January 2020 + Acceptance notification: 15 February 2020 + Conference: 6-9 April 2020, doctoral symposium on 6th ************************ Organiers: ************************ Shuwei Chen (Southwest Jiaotong University, China) Geoff Sutcliffe (University of Miami, USA) From icaart at scitevents.net Thu Nov 7 11:19:48 2019 From: icaart at scitevents.net (ICAART Secretariat) Date: Thu, 07 Nov 2019 11:19:48 +0100 Subject: Call for Papers - ICAART 2020 (Position Paper) Message-ID: null SCITEVENTS, Av. Information about the workshop can be found on http://www.epicenter.name/workshop/ . Registration: You can register online for the course by clicking here. The registration deadline is June 1, 2020. You can also go to our course website: http://www.epicenter.name/springcourse/ Registration fee: The registration fee for the course is 80 euros. To see how you can pay this amount, please visit our course website: http://www.epicenter.name/springcourse/ Your registration is not complete without paying the fee. Register early: We can only allow 30 students to the course. So please be early with your registration. The first 30 students who register will be allowed to participate. Credits and certificate: At the end of the course there will be an exam, which is optional. So, you are free to participate without doing the exam. Everybody who attends at least 20 out of 24 sessions will earn an official certificate from the EPICENTER and our university. The certificate states that the workload of this course amounts to 200 hours, which corresponds to 6.5 ECTS. If you pass the exam, by scoring at least a 5.5 out of 10, you get a special certificate saying that, next to successfully following the course, you also successfully participated in the exam. This should usually be sufficient to get 6.5 ECTS for this course at your home university. About the course: Epistemic game theory is a new, fresh approach to game theory where the reasoning of people is at center stage. More precisely, it investigates how people like you and me reason in a game theoretic situation before they make a decision. Not only do we reason about the possible choices of others, but also about the reasoning of others. This type of reasoning will be our main theme of interest. The course offers a deep introduction into the beautiful world of epistemic game theory, and is open to advanced bachelor students, master students, PhD students and researchers all over the world. For more information about the course, together with a full program of the course, please visit our course website: http://www.epicenter.name/springcourse/ Previous editions: Between 2014 and 2019 we also gave the EPICENTER Spring Course in Epistemic Game Theory on an annual basis. All editions were a big success, with highly motivated students from all across Europe and even outside (see our course website http://www.epicenter.name/previous-courses/ for some nice pictures from previous years, the names of the participants and the universities they came from). We hope the 2020 edition will be at least as good. Forward: Please forward this message to all people whom you think might be interested. Questions? Please send an E-mail to Andrés Perea at: course at epicenter.name We hope to see you at the course! Call for Papers: The Ninth International Workshop on Agent-b= ased Complex Automated Negotiations (ACAN2016)
To be held in conjunction with the 15th International Joint Conference on A= utonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS 2016)
    http://www.uow.= edu.au/~fren/ACAN2016/index.html

This workshop will be co-organised in conjunction with the Seven= th International Automated Negotiating Agents Competition (ANAC 2016).=

    Important dates

    • Subm= ission deadline: February 1, 2016
    • Acce= ptance notification: February 22, 2016
    • Came= ra-ready deadline: March 7, 2016
    • ACAN= 2016: May 9 or 10, 2016

    Scope and Background
Complex Automated Negotiations have been widely studied and are one of the = emerging areas of research in the field of Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agen= t Systems. The complexity in an automated negotiation depends on several fa= ctors: the number of negotiated issues, dependencies between these issues, representation of the utility, = negotiation procedural and protocol, negotiation form (bilateral or multi-p= arty), time constraints negotiation goals, and so on. Complex automated neg= otiation scenarios are concerned with negotiation encounters where we may have for instance, a large number= of agents, a large number of issues with strong interdependencies, real ti= me constraints, concurrent and interdepended negotiation, and etc. Many rea= l world negotiation scenarios present one or more of the mentioned elements. Software agents can support the aut= omation of complex negotiations, by negotiating on the behalf of their owne= rs and providing adequate strategies to their owners to achieve realistic, = win-win agreements. In order to provide solutions in such complex automated negotiation scenarios, researc= h has focused on incorporating different technologies including search, CSP= , graphical utility models, Bayesian nets, auctions, utility graphs, optimi= zation and predicting and learning methods. The applications of complex automated negotiations could include = e-commerce tools, decision-making support tools, negotiation support tools,= collaboration tools, as well as knowledge discovery and agent learning too= ls.
ACAN2016 will discuss, among others, the following aspects and topics of su= ch complex automated negotiations within the field of Autonomous Agents and= Multi-Agent Systems, which have distinct relationships with AAMAS main con= ference topics:

    • Comp= lex Automated Negotiations Frameworks and Mechanisms
    • =
    • Bila= teral and Multilateral Negotiations, High dimension Multi-Issue Negotiation= s,
    • Larg= e Scale Negotiations, Concurrent Negotiations, Multiple Negotiations,<= /o:p>
    • Sequ= ential Negotiations, Negotiations under Asymmetric Information, and so on
    • Pred= iction of Opponent's Behaviours and Strategies in Negotiations
    • Simu= lation Models and Platforms for Complex Negotiations
    • =
    • Coor= dination Mechanisms for Complex Negotiations
    • Matc= hmaking and Brokering Mechanisms
    • 2-Si= ded Matching
    • Util= ity and Preference Representations in Negotiations
    • Comp= utational Complexity of Multi-Issue Negotiations
    • Real= -life Aspects of Electronic Negotiations
    • Nego= tiations with Humans, Negotiations in Social Networks etc.
    • Appl= ications for Automated Negotiations (e.g. cloud computing, smart grid, elec= tronic commerce etc.)

A considerable number of researchers in various sub-communities of autonomo= us agents and multi-agent systems are actively working on these and related= issues. They are, for instance, being studied in agent negotiations, multi= -issue negotiations, auctions, mechanism design, electronic commerce, voting, secure protocols, matchmaking and bro= kering, argumentation, co-operation mechanisms and distributed optimization= . The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers from these com= munities to learn about each other's approaches to the complex negotiation problems, encourages the exchange of= ideas between the different areas, and potentially fosters long-term resea= rch collaborations to accelerate progress towards scaling up to larger and = more realistic applications.
