INFERENCE METHODS BASED ON GRAPHICAL STRUCTURES OF KNOWLEDGE
http://www.irit.fr/LC/
A one day workshop, in Patras Greece on 21st or 22nd July 2008, associated
with ECAI 2008 http://www.ece.upatras.gr/ecai2008
The use of graphical structures to improve the efficiency of inference and
search has been intensively developed in the last few years. These include
approaches based on variable elimination and propagation in join trees,
methods based on decision diagrams and related representations such as
AND/OR graphs, NNFs and tree automata, and incomplete graph-based
propagation algorithms. These techniques can be applied, in particular, to
constrained optimisation, inference in Bayesian networks and various other
uncertainty formalisms, constraints techniques including soft constraints,
to relational databases and a wide range of logics.
The focus of this workshop will be on these graphical approaches and their
use in enabling structural properties of problems to be exploited for
inference or search, for example, for uncertain inference or reasoning with
soft constraints.
The proposed workshop follows on from the ECAI-06 workshop on Inference
methods based on graphical structures of knowledge
http://www.irit.fr/LC/WIGSK06/ and the ECAI-04 workshop on Local Computation
for Logics and Uncertainty http://www.irit.fr/LC/LC04/
