PostDoc Position in multi-agent systems applied to eHealth, University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO), Sierre

Job description:
 
Applications are invited for a position as a PostDoc in the Applied Intelligent Systems Lab (AISLab) at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland, Sierre (iig.hevs.ch). The successful applicant will join a very motivated team of researchers working on applied intelligent systems, with a strong focus on health applications. S/he will work on the definition, implementation and deployment of a pervasive health application to monitor diabetes patients. The work will be done in close collaboration with the University Hospitals of Lausanne (www.chuv.ch), and is expected to produce an application tested in real settings.
 
The candidate is expected to have a PhD in computer science, mathematics or a closely related field, and to have knowledge and research experience in intelligent agents, multi-agent systems and distributed computing, with a strong application-oriented focus. Experience in eHealth is an advantage (pervasive health systems, interoperability standards, Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise, security).
 
The expertise and experience of the ideal applicant should fit the following profile in decreasing order of importance:
-       Multi-agent systems
-       Intelligent agents
-       Artificial intelligence
-       Logic programming
-       Java SE and EE programming
-       Pervasive Health Systems
-       eHealth interoperability standards
 
As our focus is on applied research, experience in software development using Java (SE and EE), Web and database programming is needed.

Language:

Good knowledge of English is mandatory. French and German are the spoken languages in Sierre so some knowledge of French or German is beneficial. The candidate should at least be willing to learn some French or German.
 
Environment:
-       Institute of Business Information Systems, University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO):
-       In the context of the same topic two national projects have been granted allowing a close collaboration in a team on related topics.
-       The offices are located in the heart of the canton of Valais and the high Swiss Alps, minutes from several ski resorts such as Crans Montana. Many outdoor sports are possible, both during summer and winter. Sierre is known as the sunniest place of Switzerland. Furthermore, the nearby city of Sion is a classical music city.
-       The location is central in Europe: travelling by train to Milano 2.5 hrs, Geneva 2 hrs, and Zurich 2.5 hrs.
 
Salary:

The offered salary is very competitive. Finding a flat in Sierre or the environments is not hard and the quality of life is very high, especially for a family.
 
Duration:

The position is expected to start in March/April 2011, or as soon as possible afterwards.
