Position Summary
---------------------------
Project: Smart Coasts = Sustainable Communities
This multi-disciplinary research project, funded by the European Union
under the Interreg IVA Ireland Wales programme, addresses the urgent
need for tools to predict faecal pollution of bathing waters in
real-time, to identify the origin and identity of pollution and to
inform the general public in a timely manner. This post is for an
enthusiastic computer scientist who will help provide the key software
infrastructure underpinning the Smart Coasts project, combining
exciting research of high academic standard with application of
research findings in the field. This research position will involve
the design and development of middleware to support the management of
a network of environmental sensors such that they may be retasked
dynamically. Smart Coasts is led by University College Dublin
in Ireland and by Aberystwyth University in Wales.
You will be reporting to Prof Gregory O’Hare

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
--------------------------------------------------
Assist with conducting a programme of research under the supervision
and direction of the principle investigator and research team.
Carry out administrative work associated with your programme of research.
Maintenance of accurate files and records, both computerised and manual.
Performance of any other duties associated with the research project,
of an occasional nature, which may be assigned by the research
coordinators.
Engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of your research group.
Undertake in the design and programming of functional components of
the software solution.
Test and debug software code.
Integrate code modules.
Develop embedded software code

Selection Criteria
-----------------------
Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates
satisfy these criteria:
A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or cognate
discipline preferably 2.1 or higher;
Experience and competence in Java or C programming;
Excellent Communication Skills (Oral, Written, Presentation etc);
Excellent Organisational and Administrative skills including a proven
ability to work to deadlines.
An interest in and an aptitude for software development

Salary & Duration
------------------------
Salary: €19,665 - €32,930 per annum (before taxes & pension deduction)
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and
experience.
This position is for TWO YEARS
